چکیده

Introduction Carbon dioxide bathing, including foot bathing, has long been used for therapeutic purposes in Europe and elsewhere. Yet, much remains unknown about its precise physiological effects, and very few basic or clinical studies have been conducted to date. We previously reported that the optimum free carbon dioxide concentration and the optimum water temperature in an artificial CO2 foot bath differ between healthy adults and elderly patients . Given the high frequency among the elderly of peripheral circulatory disorders with associated ischemia (ischemic extremities) due to peripheral arterial occlusion in the lower extremities which can cause functional disorders of the feet , we surmised from our earlier investigation that a carbon dioxide concentration of at least 700 ppm and a bath temperature of at least 34°C are effective for increasing blood flow. In the present study, we have examined the effects of artificial carbon dioxide foot bathing on ischemic feet by measuring cutaneous blood flow. We have also investigated the reproducibility of the effects of foot bathing on blood flow in ischemic feet. The results from both investigations are presented here.

Comparison of the therapeutic effect of microneedling with carbon dioxide laser in hypertrophic burn scars: a randomized clinical trial

Background: Microneedling is recently used to treat skin scars mostly atrophic scars; however, there are limited data about its effectiveness on hypertrophic burn scars. Carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is an effective method for the treatment of burn scars. Here, we aim to compare the efficacy of microneedling to CO2 laser in the treatment of hypertrophic burn scars in a randomized clinical trial. M...

Influence of shielding gas composition on weld profile in pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding of low carbon steel

Weld area and weld depth/width ratio can be considered to be of the most important geometrical factors in pulsed laser welding. The effects of carbon dioxide and oxygen additions to the argon shielding gas on the weld properties in pulsed laser welding of low carbon steel is investigated. Presence of carbon dioxide and oxygen up to 10 and 15 percent respectively decreases the weld geometrical f...

Arterial Occlusive Disease

Background. Oxygen administration is currently used in clinical medicine to improve peripheral oxygen delivery to tissues threatened by ischemia. However, conflicting results have been reported on the effects of oxygen in ischemic areas. This study was aimed at investigating the effects of 40% oxygen inhalation on the skin microcirculation in the feet of patients with peripheral arterial occlus...
